Environmental Comparison of Different Mechanical–Biological Treatment Plants by Combining Life Cycle Assessment and Material Flow Analysis

چکیده
The role of Mechanical–Biological Treatment (MBT) is still the utmost importance in management residual Municipal Solid Waste (MSW). These plants can cover a wide range objectives, combining several types processes and elements. aim this work to assess compare, from an environmental point view, performance seven selected MBT currently operating different countries, which represent main layout processes. For scope, combined Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Material Flow Analysis (MFA) approach has been adopted plant-specific efficiencies materials energy recovery. Metals recovery was common high-efficiency practice MBT; further other waste often performed. Each assessed plant achieved benefits: among them, highest benefit when amount recovered (not only with material recycling). Environmental results were strongly affected by recycling production, little contribution requirement. impacts process were, on average, 14% total one. condition for suitable combination production new raw materials, avoiding disposal landfill, refuse-derived fuel This be help operators planners they are asked define schemes.

A mixed-unit input-output model for environmental life-cycle assessment and material flow analysis.
Materials flow analysis models have traditionally been used to track the production, use, and consumption of materials. Economic input-output modeling has been used for environmental systems analysis, with a primary benefit being the capability to estimate direct and indirect economic and environmental impacts across the entire supply chain of production in an economy. We combine these two type...
متن کاملLife-Cycle Assessment of Wastewater Treatment Plants
This thesis presents a general model for the carbon footprints analysis of wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs), using a life cycle assessment (LCA) approach. In previous research, the issue of global warming is often related to traditional industries with high carbon dioxide (C0 2) emissions, such as power plants and transportation. However, the analyses of wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) h...
متن کاملLife-Cycle Assessment of Environmental Effects on Rapeseed Production
In recent years, increasing the awareness on the environmental problems, especially global warming, has increase the concerns about the impact of emissions on the global climate. The current study was conducted to evaluate and analyze the environmental effects of rapeseed production in the form of life cycle using SimaPro software with the aim concentration on climate changes and impact of acid...
متن کاملLife Cycle Assessment of Biological Nutrient Removal Wastewater Treatment Plants
Advances in wastewater treatment over the past 150 years have improved public health and local water quality. Recently however, society has begun to consider the wider environmental implications of these improvements. This paper uses life cycle assessment to quantitatively compare the environmental costs and benefits of different wastewater treatment technologies and standards. It is demonstrat...
